We returned to play at yet another military gig on 13th December 2019 for the Royal Air Force (RAF) Whaddington Officers’ Mess Christmas Ball.
We were welcomed by the client, Jo, into a gorgeous Christmas setting. The RAF base was filled with Christmas trees and decorations and different rooms had different themes and activities. After a delicious dinner, 400 RAF Officers and their partners were ushered into the marquee where we were poised and ready to entertain them! After a moving speech by the Captain, Firefly burst into 1999 by Prince, followed by a whole array of Christmas songs and other songs. The dance floor was packed all night and we had many encores! A disco then took over which saw Firefly’s lead singer and sound engineer DJ’ing until 2am inc taking many requests! Wow, these military folk can party!
As you can see from the photo, we dressed up for the occasion and mingled with the RAF Officers. We love playing at military functions and we can now add RAF Whaddington’s Officers’ Mess Christmas Ball to our very long list of military function gigs in South West England, North England, the Midlands, Somerset and Gloucestershire. See a list of Firefly Band performances at military functions below.
In the band for this amazing military function were Suzy J on lead vocals, Paul Hardy on keyboards, Stephen Barton on drums, Superman Dave on bass and Dave Miles on guitar and vocals and Kev Howlett on sound and DJ’ing. We played a ton of songs and the dance floor was packed. The setlist included songs by Guns n Roses, The Killers, Bon Jovi, Rihanna, Calvin Harris, Jess Glynne, Sia, Avicci, Chic, Abba and many more as well as Christmas songs by Slade, Shakin’ Stevens and Mariah Carey!
